Ruth McDearman, devoted Christian and enthusiastic community member, went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2024, at the age of 94. A visitation for Ruth McDearman will be held on August 31, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. A graveside service will follow immediately at New Cleveland Cemetery. Ruth's remarkable life, characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family, church, and community, will be honored and celebrated by all who knew her.
Born on June 25, 1930, in Hattiesburg Mississippi, to Rudolph and Laurie McRee Sr. Ruth grew up in Eupora, MS, and carried the values of her upbringing throughout her life.
Ruth earned her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. After graduating from Ole Miss, she was a 2nd grade teacher in Shaw, MS. While teaching in Shaw, MS, Ruthie met her husband, Bernard. After marrying in 1953, she then dedicated herself to being a homemaker.
Throughout her life, Ruth was deeply involved in her church, actively contributing to her community through various roles. After years of teaching children’s classes, she joined the Upper Room Sunday School class, served on the administrative board, and participated in countless other committees, showcasing her commitment to fostering a sense of community and faith.
Her passions extended beyond the walls of the church. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Junior Auxiliary and contributed her talents to the Delta Home & Garden. She was also a patron of the Crosstie Festival and a valued member of the Friends of Bolivar County Library. Her legacy of service and leadership was particularly evident in her involvement with the KD Alumni Association, where she proudly served as president and played a crucial role in establishing the KD chapter at Delta State University.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Laurie McRee Sr.; her husband, B.E. McDearman Jr.; her son, Bernard E. McDearman III; her brother, Rudolph McRee Jr. and sister-in-law Louise McRee; as well as her brother Henry McRee and sister-in-laws Joyce McRee, Lettie McRee, and Ruth McRee.
Ruth's family was the cornerstone of her life. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Joanna Underwood, and her husband Danny, and daughter-in-law, Danielle McDearman. Along with her brother, Bryant McRee. Ruth will be missed by her grandchildren, Amy Daniels and her husband Ralph, Dan Underwood and his wife Lisa and Laura McDearman, as well as her great-grandchildren, Dorothy Daniels, Conner Underwood, and Cooper Underwood. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by a host of nieces and nephews who will cherish many fond memories of their time spent with her.
The family wishes to especially thank DeKimberly Hullom, caregiver who became a dear friend to her and all the staff at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House for their exceptional care in her final days.
