Sara Bess King Meek died at the North Sunflower Medical Center on Saturday, September 18, 2010. She was born on May 31, 1923, on The Bend Plantation, Swan Lake, Miss. Her parents, who predeceased her, were Sallie Robinson King and Joseph Jasper King. She is survived by her sister Esther King Marsh of Laconia, Tenn. Her other siblings were David King, Joe King, and Paul King. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., and graduated from Vanderbilt University.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years Ernest Carlysle Meek, Jr., on August 23, 1994. She is survived by her children John Park Meek (Peg), Swan Lake, Miss.; Sallie Robinson Meek, Merigold, Miss.; and Ernest Carlysle Meek, III (Terry), Merigold, Miss.; grandchildren Charles Sessions Meek, Memphis, Tenn.; Owen Thomas Dicks (Sandy), Wasilla, Alaska; Wesley Robinson Dicks, Durango, Colo.; Joseph Carlisle Meek, Jackson, Miss.; Jane Bryan Meek, Oxford, Miss.; and great-grandson Thomas Wyatt Dicks, Wasilla, Alaska.
She was a sweet, gentle soul, well known and beloved for much, especially her wonderful cooking that she so generously shared.
Visitation (10:00 a.m.) and a memorial service (11:00 a.m.) will be held on Saturday, October 2, at the Merigold Methodist Church.
