Mrs. Sarah Evans Tapley, 82, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, MI. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11:00 Saturday, January 17, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Memorial Services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland with Rev. Will Wilkerson officiating.
Mrs. Tapley was born in Boyle, MS on October 10, 1932, to Fred Dailey Evans, Sr. and Addie Dungan Evans. She was married to Harold Clark Tapley and worked most of her life as an elementary school teacher who inspired many. Sarah was involved in many local activities. She loved to volunteer at the hospital, at Hayes Cooper, and the library. She was a member of the Woman's Club, The Yellow Room Readers, The Golden Circle at Delta State University, and BPAC. She loved playing tennis and supporting friends when she could no longer play. "She made me feel like seeing me was the best thing that happened to her that day.", "Always spunky and full of life", "Sarah Tapley made this world a brighter place.", "The Delta lost a gem.", "My Friday margarita slushes will never be the same.", "For so many years she has been my friend, sister, and fearless leader." "She was the best Aunt a girl could have." We will always remember her laugh, her smile, and her hugs.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Dailey Sr. and Addie Dungan Evans; husband, Harold Clark Tapley; and siblings, Lucille Evans Hodson, Fred Dailey Evans, Jr., George L Evans, and Charles "Bill" Evans.
Mrs. Tapley is survived by her daughter, Lynn Consul Calkins (Mike Wysopal) of Grand Rapids, MI; honorary grand-daughter, Anna Austin Williamson; and a host of nieces, nephews, beloved friends, and past students who touched her life as much as she touched theirs.
Honorary pallbearers will be George Evans, Jr., George Evens, III, Fred Evans III, Greg Evans, Will Evans, Brad Evans, Bill Evans, Roy Boone, Ancil Cox, Deb Gee, Robert Heslep, Jerry Kitchens, Murray Roark, and Tommy Waldrup.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the DSU Foundation - Athletics.
