Sheppard Haaga

Sheppard William Haaga, III, 61, of Cleveland, passed at his home. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church with Bro. Michael McLaughlin and Father Kent Bowlds officiating. Interment will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Haaga was born February 13, 1952, to Sheppard W. Haaga, Jr. and Georgia G. Gilliland Haaga. He married Susan Griffith on December 28, 1975. He graduated Delta State University with a BSE and Master of Education. He was a teacher and passionate football coach for 26 years, and he also worked as a Case Manager at Parchman Department of Corrections for 10 years.He was a member of the Kappa Alpha and a member of the Cleveland Fire department for 10 years. He was an avid reader that loved history. He enjoyed sports; especially the MSU Football and DSU Baseball teams. He loved hunting, fishing, cooking with his cooking team. More than anything, he adored his daughters and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sheppard W. Haaga, Jr., and Georgia Haaga and his father-in-law, Ellis Griffith.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Griffith Haaga of Cleveland, MS; children, Fran Haaga Strehlow (Andrew) of Brandon and Beth Haaga Joel (Jay) of Southaven; grandchildren, Semmes and Spencer Strehlow, and Kate Ellis and Bennett Joel; sisters, Sue Haaga Craig of Friars Point, Bryan Haaga Hughes of West Point, and Ann Haaga Carlisle of Seattle, WA; brother, Fletcher Haaga of Memphis, TN; his mother-in-law, Gloria Smith Griffith; and his brother and sister in laws, Ben Griffith (Kathy), Danny Griffith, Lonnie Griffith (Bretna), and Mary Kate Walhood (Bradley).
Pallbearers will be Wally Ashley, Randall Gurlen, Troy Odom, Robert Strawbridge, Glenn Ray, Jay Joel, and Andrew Strehlow.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bolivar County Library Endowment Fund.
