Stevie Lynn “Steve” Gentry, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a cherished member of his community, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the age of 76. Visitation will be held 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Pace Pentecostal Church. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
Steve was born on December 10, 1948, in Vardaman, MS, and spent his formative years growing up in the Houston, MS, and New Orleans, LA areas.
Steve’s life was one characterized by hard work and dedication. He began his professional journey as a mechanic and later became a service manager at Sledge Chevrolet in Cleveland, MS. In 1992, he relocated to Hernando, MS, where he continued his career as a Maintenance Supervisor, first at Hernando Boneless Beef and later at Newly Weds Foods in Southaven, MS. His commitment to his work was evident, and he proudly served until his retirement in 2018.
A man of great character, Steve joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18 in 1966. He served honorably during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he exemplified the bravery and resilience attributed to those who served.
After nine years of dating, Steve married the love of his life, Debbie Denley Gentry, in 1996. They shared a profound bond over their 29 years together, creating treasured memories with their family and friends. He also maintained meaningful and lasting friendships with his former wives, Cindy Thomas and Dianne Hall. Steve was a lifelong member of Pace Pentecostal Church in Pace, MS, where he found joy and purpose.
Steve was not only dedicated to his family but also a compassionate individual who touched the hearts of many. His beloved daughter-in-law, Jordan Gentry, devoted countless hours to him, providing excellent care that filled his final days with love and diligent, conscientious support. Special recognition is also due to his hospice nurse, Jaimie Allen, hospice CNA, Terriana Wilson and caregiver, Vickie Nichols, who provided exceptional care during his final journey. The unwavering support and companionship from his neighbors, Dale and Kristi Bowling, were also deeply appreciated.
Steve embraced his role as a family man, leaving behind cherished sons Chris Gentry (Jordan) of Cleveland, MS, and Jeff Gentry (Sabrina) of Rogers, AR; beloved daughters Sheri Gentry of Oxford, MS, and Taylor Gentry Park (Stephen) of Horn Lake, MS; treasured grandchildren Braelyn Gentry, Olivia Gentry, Dakota Gentry, Levi Gentry, Evan Park, Lauren Cummins (Brandon), Alexis Johnson (Kameron), and Kiersten Gentry; and prized great-grandchildren Brailyn Cummins, Crue Cummins, Mary Brandon Cummins, Nathan Johnson, and Eli Johnson. He is also survived by his cherished sisters Dawn Smith, Diane Oswalt (David), Karen Timmons (Larry), Robin Parfait, and Mae Sbravati (Tim), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his living family members, Steve is reunited in death with his beloved wife, Debbie Denley Gentry, his parents Brooks and Marguerite Gentry, and sisters Donita Beach and Felicia Robinson.
Steve Gentry’s legacy will be remembered through the love he shared and the lives he touched. He was also a gifted artist, known for creating meaningful and beautiful artwork that will continue to resonate with his loved ones. His impact on family and community will be felt for years to come.
