Steve Wee Len Wong passed away peacefully at his home in Boyle surrounded by family on May 7,2011, at the age of 92. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Kam Yee (Margie); son, Raymond Wong of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Betsy Wong McCall and husband George of Ocean Springs, MS; daughter, Daisy Wong-Eigenbrood and husband Jake of Bellingham, WA; grandson, Steven McCall of Gulfport, MS; granddaughter, Mikki McCall of Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Buck Wong and wife Elizabeth of Fairhope, AL; sister, Tai Seto and husband Wing Yat of New York, NY; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Hong Yee and Hau Slui Hai Wong, and sister Po Kam Jue.
Steve left China alone at the age of 13 to come to America to support his family. He continued to honor his mother's wishes by diligently working to bring his siblings to the United States.
Steve was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving in WWII as a member of the Flying Tigers 14th Air Service Support Group. After the war, he and his wife bought, owned and operated Wong's Food Market in Rosedale where they started and raised their family. After 34 years, they retired to Boyle.
Steve embraced life, worked hard, and had an innate sense of humor. He enjoyed socializing with friends, reading, watching movie classics, and eating his wife's cooking. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Ray Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at North Cleveland Cemetery.
