Susan Thompson, a beloved educator and cherished family member passed away on November 5, 2024, in Cleveland, Mississippi, at the age of 68. A visitation will be November 7, 2024, from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service, which will begin at 3:30 PM, at Ray Funeral Home, in Cleveland, MS. Interment will follow at New Cleveland Cemetery.
Susan was born on May 8, 1956, in Key West, Florida, to Frank and Jean Thompson and spent her life dedicated to nurturing and inspiring the minds of young students.
For 24 years, Susan lent her passion and patience to the role of a special education teacher at AW James and Shelby Broadstreet Schools, where she made a lasting impact on countless students. Her commitment to education was underscored by her academic accomplishments; she graduated from Cleveland High School and went on to earn a master's degree in special education from Delta State University. Her contributions to her field exemplified her belief in the potential of every child to thrive and succeed.
Beyond her professional life, Susan was a woman of many joys. She cherished time spent with family and friends, taking immense pride in her roles as a loving mother, devoted sister, and adoring grandmother. Her greatest reward in life was her grandchildren, Madyson Myers, Alexander Myers, and Haisley Canady, who brought her boundless joy and happiness. Susan's warm spirit also touched the lives of her daughter, Jennie Canady and her husband Daniel; her sister, Lynda Morris and her husband Sam; her chosen sisters, Diana Walters and her husband Eugene and Debbie Wanko and her husband Greg; and her niece Kelly Lindhe and her husband Corey.
Susan had a vibrant personality that was reflected in her interests and hobbies. She loved movies, particularly "The Wizard of Oz," enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, and found solace in fishing. Her laughter and delight in life's simple pleasures endeared her to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jean Thompson, who instilled in her the values of compassion, hard work, and dedication to others.
Susan Thompson's legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be missed profoundly by her family, friends, and her community.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
