Theodore Alford, Jr., age 61, of Gunnison, MS, passed away July 27, 2020, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. Ted was the co-owner of Bolivar Auto Parts and Bolivar Tire in Cleveland. He served on the Port Commission of the Port of Rosedale and for many years and served on the board of Donaldson Point Hunting Club as president. Ted was an avid hunter who loved nothing more than a good warthog chase. A larger than life personality, Ted was a friend to many who loved his jovial sense of humor and his steady supply of funny stories. Known as the "go to guy," Ted was a kind, sensitive man who was always a willing helper, who quietly performed many acts of kindness anonymously. Ted was preceded in death by his father, Theodore "Pete" Alford, and nephew Matthew Baker. Survivors include his wife Marilyn Lipnick Alford, his mother Elizabeth Ann Alford, his daughters Anna A. Sledge (Allen) and Merritt Dattel McGowan (Dave); brother Dave Alford (Mary Anne); sister Cindi A. Baker (Stanley); grandchildren Theodore Alford "Ford" Murphy, Capps Sledge, Roselie McGowan, and Maura McGowan; and also several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at the Jewish Cemetery in Greenville, MS at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2020 with a memorial service to follow at a later date. Services will be officiated by Reverend Hugh Holder-Cummings and Rabbi Debbie Kassoff. The family asks that donations be made to the Jewish Cemetery Fund of Greenville, First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland, or to St. Jude Research Hospital.
