Mrs. Thelma Ruth McGarrh McKnightâs Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came and took her home, while she slept on October 25, 2010/ Mrs. McKnight was in her 90th year on this earth. Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at Morrison Chapel Baptist Church in Cleveland with the Reverend John Thomas officiating. Internment will follow the funeral services in the North Cleveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from12:30- 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Morrison Chapel.
Mrs. McKnight was born in Tom Nolen, MS. to Henry McGarrh and Willie Clare Williams McGarhh, on June 2, 1920. At the young age of five, she and her family moved to Merigold, MS, where she spent the entirety of her formative years. She graduated from Merigold High School. On July 19, 1941, she married Eckward Nathan McKnight in Cleveland, MS, living in Cleveland until Eckward left for the armed services during World War II. While her husband was overseas, she kept her mother until she died, then moved to Memphis, TN, and worked for Ford Motor Co.. After the war, she and her husband made their home in Cleveland. She was a life long member of Morrison Chapel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 40 years. She delighted in teaching Sunday School.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her mother, and father, a brother, T.U. McGarrh, and four sisters, Kate McGarrh Davis, Henrilou McGarrh Capps, Pinie McGarrh Halliburton, and Melba McGarrh Conners.
Mrs. McKnight is survived by her two sons, Eckward Nathan McKnight, Jr. and his wife Nancy, and Ernie McKnight and his wife Rose Anne, all of Cleveland; four gradchildren, Nat McKnight (Robin), Austin McKnight, Mallory McKnight all of Cleveland, and Michael McKnight of Southaven, MS; brother, James McGarrh (Floy) of Germantown, TN; sister, Hattie McGarrh Prewitt (Elmer) of Boyle, MS; two great-grandchildren, Rhett McKnight and Reid McKnight of Cleveland.
Pallbearers will be at Nat MacKnight, Michael McKnight, Austin McKnight, Ken McGarrh, Greg Jackson, and Malcolm Harden.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that a memorial be sent to either the Morrison Chapel Building Fund or Delta State University General Scholarship Fund.
