Thomas E. Free, 64, of Saltillo, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012, at North Mississippi Medical Center. A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to service time on Thursday. Holland Funeral Directors is entrusted with local arrangements. A second visitation will be held at Ray Funeral Home from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012, with a memorial service immediately following beginning at 11 a.m.
Mr. Free was born June 13, 1948 in Ruleville, MS to James J. Free and Maxine Whatley Free. He was a graduate of Delta State University earning a degree in Business Administration and a minor in English. Thomas married Ruth Ann Morgan on December 17, 1973. He began his career as a postal clerk while living in the delta and served thirty years with the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. He was a musician and was a member of the Rooks and the Gene Parker Quintet. He and Ruth Ann moved to Saltillo in 1993 where they made their home, raised their family, and became involved in the community. He was of the Methodist faith.
His survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Ruth Ann Free of Saltillo; his daughter, Elizabeth Caraway Freeman and husband, William D. Freeman, Jr. of Kiln, MS and granddaughter, Audra Lee Freeman of Kiln, MS; three brothers, Gary Free and wife, Anna of Indianola, MS, Joe Free and wife, Donnie of Munford, TN, and Mark Free and wife, Alisa of Collierville, TN and a host of other near relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
