Tommie Arnold York, 81, of Cleveland passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2012, at the Interstate Baptist church with Bro. John Chouccoli and Bro. Robert Haney officiating. Interment will follow in the North Cleveland Cemetery.
Tommie was born in Drew, MS on January 21, 1931 to Bertha Lee Rico York and Harvey York. The family moved to the Gunnison, MS area when Tommie was very small. Tommie grew up on a farm in the Gunnison area. He graduated from Gunnison High School May 25, 1951. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Cleo Andrews on February 1, 1958 in Clarksdale, MS. Tommie worked at Baxter Lab until his retirement in 1993. Tommie's first wife, Cleo, died,February 27, 1989. Tommie then met Dealie Ann Sappington and married her, November 23, 1990 at Interstate Baptist Church.
He was a member and deacon of the Interstate Baptist Church. He loved his Family, and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, baseball, and football. Tommie loved woodworking, gardening, his Lord, his church and his country.
Tommie is preceded in death by his parents, Bertha Lee York, and Harvey York; first wife, Cleo Andrews York.
He is survived by his wife, Dealie Ann Sappington York of Cleveland, MS; two daughters, Hilda York Holder (Jimmy)of Hattiesburg MS, and Jackie York Jones (Kenny) of Cleveland MS; two sons, Kenneth R. York (Diane) of Clarksdale MS, Calvin G York (Donna) of Vancleave MS, two stepsons, James Garland Steed Jr. (Kathy)of Teague TX, and Robert Dwayne Steed (Tonya) of South Haven MS; two sisters, Phyllis Gordon of Cleveland MS, and Omagee Ferrell of Nesbit MS; three brothers, Harvey York Jr. from Gunnison MS, Billy York from Mathiston MS, and Carl York from Perthshire MS; grandchildren, Ken Ray York, Skianne Clark, Amy McCullough, Meg Loeffler, Monica Fields, Casey York, Erin Holder Schmitt, Dani Holder McVeigh, Matthew Jones, Darby Jones, Nat Jones, step grandchildrem, Jade Steed, Heather Paniagua, Jake Steed, Dylan Steed, Dalton Steed, and Emily Steed; great-grandchildren, Devin Winsett, Lola Fields, Luke Fields, Madison York, Dalton York, Jessica Foster, Tyler Clark, and Brody McCullough.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Interstate Baptist Church.
