Vernell Jones

Vernell Jones, 94, of Shaw, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at her home. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Haney officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born in Magee, MS, on September 27, 1919, to Willis Purvis and Cora Purvis. On June 17, 1945, she married Amzie Jones. She was a member of Shaw Methodist Church, Home Demonstration, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Active POW Group. She worked as a receptionist at Colonial Inn as well as Stanley Childs Insurance for over 20 years. Mrs. Jones loved gardening and tending to her flowers, and cooking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Carla Purvis; husband, Amzie Jones; sisters, Annie Rae Womach, and Katie Ruth Barnes; and brother, Norman Purvis.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her son, Stanley Jones (Pam) of Shaw; daughter, Barbara Turner of Sunflower; grandchildren, Tate Turner (Mandy) of Ridgeland, Ken Jones (Tracy) of Cleveland, Keith Jones (Gina) of Linn; and Greg Rikard of Shaw; great-grandchildren, Brieanna Turner, Courtney Turner, Lexi Turner , Macye Jones, Jack Jones, Truett Flowers, Sara Douglas Jones, Levi Jones and Wyatt Jones; a great-great grandchild, Logue Flowers; sisters, Jean Barnard and June Whitney both of Magee; and a brother, Glenn Purvis of Magee.
