Mrs. Wanda Nell Milum Ray, 61, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at her home. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Huber officiating. Interment will be held in Shaw Cemetery.
Mrs. Ray was born In Litton, MS, on June 12, 1951, to George Ertis Milum, Sr. and Gladys Grimes Milum. She married Bobby D. Ray, Sr. on July 2, 1971 in Shelby, MS. Mrs. Ray worked as branch clerk and Manager at Synergy Gas Co from 1976 until 1988, Bolivar County Administrator's office from 1988 until 1993, and was appointed to the Bolivar County Administrator position in 1993 and served until 2004. She also worked for Delta State University Archives and Museum from 2005 until 2007 and then retired. During her government tenure she was active at local, state and national levels. She served as president of the Mississippi Association of County Administrators/Comptrollers and other positions. She was an officer in the Cleveland Exchange Club, on the Board of Directors for the Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, Bolivar County Economic Development District, Red Cross, and was the county liaison for the Bolivar County Planning Commission, Expo Board, and other county agencies and county committees. After her retirement she was very involved in the Glen Crosby Unit 165 American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Morrison Chapel Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her father, George Ertis Milum Sr.; mother, Gladys Grimes Milum; father in law, D.N. Ray, Jr.; and sister, Judy Darlene Milum.
Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband, Bobby D. Ray Sr. of Cleveland, MS; sons, Dwaine Ray (Stephanie) of Cleveland, MS, and Steven Ray of Cleveland, MS; mother in law, Nell Ditto Ray of Cleveland, MS; brothers, Ertis Milum Jr (Marti) of Cleveland, MS, and Larry Milum of Shelby, MS; sisters, Shirley Milum Lamb Turner (Charles) of Cleveland, MS, Brenda Milum Tidwell of Cleveland, MS, and Vickie Milum Mathis (Freddie) of Cleveland, MS; grandchildren, Morgan Ray, Austin Ray, Kaylee Ray, and Dalton Cummings (Carlie Rae), MS and great-grandchildren, Landon Ray Cummings.
Pallbearers will be Jason Ballard, Jeremy Peacock, Jonathan Milum, Brandon Baldwin, Bobby Douglas, and Donald Gant.
Honorary pallbearers will be H.M. "Mack" Grimmett Benjamin E. Griffith, Will Gourlay, Lee Bizzell, Victor Baioni, Mickey Thompson, Jeanne R. Walker, and Nancy J. Havens.
