William Dale Swales

Mr. William Dale Swales, 72, of Boyle, MS went to the Lord on Thursday, May 27th, 2021. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 30th, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following. Interment will be at the New Cleveland Cemetery. William was born August 28th, 1948, in Columbia, MS to William Grant & Mamie Eliza Swales. He graduated from Bassfield High School as Salutatorian, and was Mr. BHS his senior year. William received a band scholarship from Pearl River Community College. He finished his education at Delta State University with a BSE in Mathematics and a minor in Chemistry. He loved NASCAR racing, especially the Ford brands. He was the co-owner of one of the first satellite businesses in Mississippi. He also served 6 years in the Army National Guard, with a rank of Sargent E-5 in the 134th Engineer Company, after completing basic training in Fort Knox, Kentucky. After retiring from 37 years as a Metrologist (calibration specialist) with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, William loved to spend time with his friends and family. He was a youth Sunday School teacher at Benoit Union Church, was a member of the Bolivar County Humane Society, and volunteered for the Cleveland Police Department Auxiliary. Most of all William loved and adored his wife, his two children, and his three granddaughters. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Grant Swales, Jr. & Mamie Eliza Speights Swales; brother, Gregory Lee Swales, Sr; son, Robert Grant Swales; father-in-law, James Robert Clifton; mother-in-law, Claudia Lee Palmer Clifton; brother-in-law, Ken Sumrall, and sister-in-law, Linda Clifton Lindsey. William is survived by his wife, Sherry Jane Clifton Swales; daughter, Traci Swales Null (George); grandchildren, Ireland Elizabeth, Madelyn Rivers, and Rachel Cameryn Null; sisters, Charlotte Ann Swales McHenry (Doug) and Pamela Jane Swales Willhauck (Louis); brother-in-law, Robert D Clifton; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to msfocus.org for multiple sclerosis research.
