Mr. Winfred "Sonny" Roark, 77, of Boyle passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be from 6-8:00p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Boyle with Reverend Clarence Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Sonny was born April 15, 1934 in Boyle, MS to Alvin and Iona Brock Roark. He married Freddie Jean Kilgore on February 28, 1953 in Round Away, MS. Mr. Roark served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for 41 years as an electrician with Entergy Mississippi (Mississippi Power and Light). Mr. Sonny loved hunting, fishing, and associating with friends. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and took his profession of faith in 1951, He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, past president of The Benoit Hunting Club and a previous member of The Benoit Outing Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Iona Roark; brother, Jimmy Frank "Toby" Roark; and infant sister, Patsy Roark.
Mr. Roark is survived by his wife, Freddie Roark of Boyle; children, Pam Roark Harrelson (Tommy) of Madison, Fred Roark (Mary Jo) of Boyle, and Nancy Roark Pate (Ken) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Stephanie Steed of Brandon, Bethany Gough of Madison, Mary Margaret Roark of Boyle, Winn Roark of Boyle, Brady Pate of Cleveland, and Justin Pate of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Abbey Steed, Brandon Steed, Coleson Steed, Easton Steed, Mabry Pate, and Preston Gough IV; siblings, Gale Roark (Linda) of Cleveland, Murry Roark (Lisa) of Boyle, Sarah Nabors (Eddie) of Indianola, Lizzie Roark of Cleveland, and Brenda Roark of Salem, OR.
Pallbearers will be Billy Wachter, Chuck Hudson, Murry Litton, Bill Harrison, Freddie Foshee and Bren Prewitt, Jr.. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Wayne Reed, Bern Prewitt, Sr., Hilton Tarver, Bobby Stanford, Ken Livingston, Charles Jones Bill Redditt, Sidney Austin and Roy Boone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Boyle and Alzheimer's Association.
