Alton Haywood Britt, Jr., son of the late Alton Haywood Britt and Mary Jerdon Sappington Britt, was born September 16, 1939 in Perthshire, Mississippi. He departed this life November 30, 2018 at his home in Melbourne, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 14 days.
He was united in marriage to Betty Latham in Rosedale, Mississippi August 26, 1961 and together they raised two sons. Alton spent his life as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, provider and friend. All of his working years were spent at Alabama Metals in Rosedale, Mississippi. He retired as Vice President of Engineering. Haywood served in the Mississippi National Guard. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.
Alton is survived by his wife of 57 years: Betty Latham Britt of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law: Alton H. Britt, III "Woody" and wife Frankie of Germantown, Tennessee and Latham and Betty Britt of Beulah, Mississippi; four grandchildren: Alton Haywood Britt, IV "Hayes", Shelby Victoria "Tori" Britt, Matthew O’Neal Britt and Joseph Lamar Britt and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Alton Haywood Britt and Mary Jerdon Sappington Britt and one sister: Linda Sue Britt Haney.
Visitation and funeral service will be Monday, December 3 at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. Funeral service begins at 2:00 p.m. with Elvis Sneather and John Higgins officiating.
Graveside funeral service will be Tuesday, December 4 at 2:00 p.m. at Beulah Cemetery in Beulah, Mississippi.
