Sarah Gorrell, age 78, was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, February 3, 2020 in Jackson, MS. Visitation honoring her life will be held Friday, February 7, 2020 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland, MS with Mass immediately following at 11:30 a.m. Private family graveside service will follow at Drew cemetery. Sarah was born to Pat and Sallie Luckett on September 21, 1941 in Sharon, MS. She graduated high school from Canton High and went on to attend Mississippi State College for Women (The “W”) where she obtained a major in education. She married John “Johnny” William Gorrell. Sarah began her teaching career at Drew High School, but most of her teaching years were spent at North Sunflower Academy where she retired. Sarah helped publish the first Rebel cookbook while teaching at NSA. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She was well known for her Christmas candies which she shared with others. She loved taking care of her grandchildren over the years. She and her husband Johnny have been residents of Drew, MS for over 50 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Sallie Luckett; brothers, Pat Luckett, Charles Luckett, Gus “Gip” Luckett, Tom Luckett, and Billy Luckett; sisters, Harriette Kee and Peggy Burwell. Sarah is survived by her husband, Johnny Gorrell; son, John Patrick Gorrell (Gaye) of Cleveland; daughters, Stephanie Gorrell of Madison and Elizabeth Dodd (Donovan) of Gulf Shores, AL; grandchildren, Brittani Gorrell (Jonathan Morris) of Sumner, Sarah Beth Gorrell and Hannah Gorrell of Gulfport; great grandchildren, Emmie Morris, Caisen Steadman and Caroline Morris. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer society.
