Obituary of Percy Noel Funchess Jr

Mr. Percy Noel Funchess Jr, 80, of Cleveland, MS went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 3, 2020. A procession will start at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2020 beginning at Ray Funeral Home going to Old Cleveland Cemetery for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. Noel was born March 13, 1940 to Percy and Virginia Funchess in Cleveland, MS. He graduated from Cleveland High School. He then pursued a Bachelor of Science in Education degree at Mississippi State University. Noel then worked in sales for over 30 years and upon returning to Cleveland he opened the $1.00 Emporium. He was also a member of The National Guard and served on active duty in the 60’s. It was after his return to Cleveland that Noel reconnected with his high school sweetheart Lynnelle Mayatte. They were married for 25 years. Noel enjoyed learning something new every day. He was an avid reader who loved military history. The interest in learning prompted him to further his education at Delta State University. There he enrolled in numerous history and art classes over the years thru present time. Noel was nominated to the National Society of Leadership and Success by Delta State University. Noel is survived by wife, Lynnelle M Funchess; sons, Percy Noel Funchess III of Orlando, FL, Sam Funchess of Greensboro, NC, and James “Jimbo” Gerald III of Ellisville, MS; daughters, Cynthia Rocconi Freeman (Brian) of New Albany, MS, Ashley McNutt (Matt) of Ruleville, MS, Kim Funchess, and Barbara Funchess; grandchildren, Dakota Funchess, Jordan Funchess, Christopher Funchess, Zachary Funchess, Samuel Funchess Jr, Marie Ware (Brian), Cortnie Rocconi, Kelsie Rocconi, Avritt McNutt, and Kash McNutt; great grandchildren, Ethan Ware, Ava Ware, Hayden Ware, Nellie Rocconi, and Ivie Rocconi. A special thank you to the Cleveland Lions Club and B.G. Tatum. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Noel’s memory to the Cleveland Lions Club.
