Obituary of Marjorie Anne Smith

Marjorie Anne Morris Smith went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 1, 2021. The visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Monday, September 6, 2021 at Benoit Union Church in Benoit, MS with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00 pm. Graveside service following at the Shelby Cemetery. Marjorie was born to William Lathan Morris and Eddis Cruise Morris on February 9,1930 in Shelby, MS and as a child moved to Greenville, MS where she started her music career early by writing the Alma Mater Song for Carrie Stern Elementary School. She graduated from Marks High School as Salutatorian and attended MSCW and graduated with a Bachelors in Music Education where she was the captain of the French Zouave Drill Corps. She started her teaching career in Benoit, MS in 1952. She married Albert B. Smith II in 1953 in Cleveland ( d 1960) taught in Hope Mills North Carolina and later Cleveland, MS. She married John Charles Smith in 1968 and continued as a loving homemaker for her family near Benoit, MS. Marjorie gave her life to Jesus as a young child and served Him throughout her life as a light to her family, friends and church. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland and later at Benoit Union Church where she taught the Children's Choirs for many years, taught the Ladies Sunday School Class, Vacation Bible School and she sang in the choir at Benoit Union Church for over 40 years. She is preceeded in death by her parents, William Lathan Morris, Eddis Cruise Morris, her first husband, Albert Smith and her late husband, John Charles Smith, her sister, Mary Elizabeth Morris, and her brothers, Bill Morris and Bobby Morris. Marjorie is survived by her children, Albert Benjamin Smith 111 (Sally) of Cleveland, Cynthia Smith Powers (Michael) of Little Rock, Sandra Smith Garretson (Roland) of Nashville, Linda Smith Goff (Kerry) of Brandon and Laura Preda-Smith (Florin) of Greenville. Marjorie is survived by her grandchildren, Sara Smith, Jennifer Saltaformaggio (David), Maria Gray, Meghan Powers Chow (Joseph), Kaitlyn Powers, Victoria Garretson, Grace Garretson, Marjorie Garretson Lewis (Drew), Daniel Satterfield (Katie), Jason Satterfield (McCloud), Rachel Parker (Matt), Isaac Preda-Smith, Grace Marie Preda-Smith, Nathaniel Preda-Smith, Joseph Preda-Smith. She is survived by her great grandchildren, Madison Willoughby , Joshua Willoughby , Anna Kay Willoughby and Elizabeth Goss, Kaelyn Gray, Matthew Ward Saltaformaggio, Michael Lewis, Marigold Lewis, Henry Satterfield, Gwen Satterfield, Nora Satterfield Hite Satterfield Allie Satterfield, Cruze Parker, Lathan Parker, Lynley Parker, Everett Parker, Jay Parker and Jack Parker.
